How do I appeal to POPLA?

Modified on Fri, 28 Jul 2023 at 05:10 AM

POPLA won’t accept an appeal without a verification code. This code is generated by us and included on documentation when we decline your appeal.

Details on how to appeal to POPLA will also be provided within our reply advising you the appeal has been declined. You only have 28 days from the date your appeal is rejected to appeal directly with POPLA.

You’ll need to collect any evidence which supports your appeal, then submit this directly on the POPLA website. You only have the opportunity to add evidence once, so you should ensure you’re prepared when you start the appeal.

Once you’ve submitted your appeal with POPLA, they’ll notify us and we’ll then submit our counter evidence. You do get one last opportunity to comment on the evidence we submit, before all evidence is sent to an independent POPLA adjudicator who will review everything submitted.

We will always uphold the decision made by POPLA, so if they agree it shouldn’t have been issued your ticket will be cancelled and no further action will be taken.

If POPLA decides the charge was fairly issued, you will now have lost the opportunity to pay the reduced amount, and must pay the full unpaid charge within 28 days. If payment is not received within 28 days, the ticket will be passed to a debt collection agency who will collect the payment on our behalf. This will incur further costs, and may ultimately result in a CCJ being issued.
